Meet the Experts

Wahaka Mezcal Night with Eduardo Belaunzarán
Sunday, September 29, 4:30-6:30 PM
Eduardo will explain the process of creating sustainably-produced mezcal and Wahaka’s reforestation efforts in Mexico through Fundación Agaves Silvestres. Virtually visit the Wahaka palenque where there is no machinery, no industrial equipment, no hint of mass production, because Wahaka believes the old world is still the best world. Guests will enjoy a generous selection of small bites, taste Wahaka expressions and enjoy a special Wahaka craft cocktail while Eduardo shares his passion for the unique and complex libations made for generations in Mexico. Born in Mexico City, Eduardo’s passion for “la bonne chère” grew during his 20 years spent in Paris, France. Now in America, he is an importer of Mexican libations, always looking to share his appreciation for his crafts in three different languages: Spanish, English and French. “Lalo” to his friends, Eduardo is an enthusiastic agave specialist, Managing Partner of Wahaka Mezcal and Back Alley Imports, an oenophile and, as of March 2019, an Oficial Mezcal Ambassador by the COMERCAM.

MezcalBridge
Mezcal Bridge with Eduardo Belaunzarán, Official Mezcal Ambassador
Saturday, November 16, 5:00-8:00 PM
Eduardo returns to Mission Cantina as an Official Mezcal Ambassador to introduce guests to the mezcaleros whose lives and families depend on the sustainable production of mezcal. Hear about the culture of mezcal beyond the brands, as we build a bridge between our love of these artisanal spirits in the Pacific Northwest and these small family palenques who produce this beautiful and traditional spirit of Mexico. Joining us will be representatives from the Consejo Regulador del Mezcal (CRM) to discuss the protection of the Denomination of Origin of Mezcal (DO) and the certification of these traditional agave spirits. Guests will taste small batch mezcals from several palenques, enjoy live music, appetizers, Mission Cantina’s almost-famous pig roast, and have ample time to meet and discuss the culture of mezcal with this very special group of mezcaleros and Mezcal Ambassador.
