Meet the Experts

Maguey Melate Night with Chris Dodds and Lou Bank of SACRED
Saturday, August 10, 4:30-6:30 PM
Hear from the founding partner and storyteller, Chris Dodds, how Maguey Melate connects people and places with independent mezcaleros who make incredibly delicious artisanal spirits. Their mission is to preserve and promote traditional agave spirit production methods, culture, and family owned palenques, while keeping the spirits of Mexico artisanal and sustainable. Joining Chris will be Lou Bank, who has sold more copies of a single comic book than anyone else in America, helped bring Pokemon to the masses, Star Wars to the cereal aisle and Morimoto to the beer geeks. But what he’ll be talking about on August 10 is SACRED, the not-for-profit that he founded that uses heirloom agave spirits to improve quality of life in the rural Mexican communities where those spirits are made.

Guests will enjoy a generous selection of Mission Cantina menu favorites and taste unique destilados de agave not found anywhere else, including Tobaziche from Mtro. Mezcalero Félix Ángeles Arellanes, Tepextate from Mtro. Mezcaleros Isaac and Marta García and Madre Cuixe from Mtro. Mezcalero Ageo Cortés Sánchez. Attendees will have an opportunity to purchase the Maguey Melate Signature Box for delivery during the event, and enter a raffle for one of these unique tasting boxes while at the event.

Wahaka Mezcal Night with Eduardo Belaunzarán
Sunday, September 29, 4:30-6:30 PM
Eduardo will explain the process of creating sustainably-produced mezcal and Wahaka’s reforestation efforts in Mexico through Fundación Agaves Silvestres. Virtually visit the Wahaka palenque where there is no machinery, no industrial equipment, no hint of mass production, because Wahaka believes the old world is still the best world. Guests will enjoy a generous selection of small bites, taste Wahaka expressions and enjoy a special Wahaka craft cocktail while Eduardo shares his passion for the unique and complex libations made for generations in Mexico. Born in Mexico City, Eduardo’s passion for “la bonne chère” grew during his 20 years spent in Paris, France. Now in America, he is an importer of Mexican libations, always looking to share his appreciation for his crafts in three different languages: Spanish, English and French. “Lalo” to his friends, Eduardo is an enthusiastic agave specialist, Managing Partner of Wahaka Mezcal and Back Alley Imports, an oenophile and, as of March 2019, an Oficial Mezcal Ambassador by the COMERCAM.

Agave-Fields
Mezcal Bridge with Eduardo Belaunzarán, Official Mezcal Ambassador
Saturday, October 19, 5:00-8:00 PM
Eduardo returns to introduce guests to the mezcaleros whose lives and families depend on the sustainable production of mezcal. Hear about the culture of mezcal beyond the brands, as we build a bridge between our love of these artisanal spirits in the Pacific Northwest and these small family palenques who produce this beautiful and traditional spirit of Mexico. Guests will enjoy live music, appetizers, cocktails and our almost-famous pig roast, and have ample time to meet and discuss the culture of mezcal with this very special group of mezcaleros and the official Ambassador of Mezcal.
